Arte Nacional Capoeira Stuttgart !

What is Capoeira?

Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art , also known as combat dance, and was originally developed by enslaved Africans in Brazil as a way to experience physical and mental freedom despite oppression. What was once practiced secretly and in secret is now known and recognized worldwide: a UNESCO World Heritage Site that inspires people all over the world—from Rio to Tokyo, from Cape Town to Stuttgart. We have been offering authentic Capoeira training in Stuttgart for 20 years under the direction of Mestre Dedé.

Capoeira can be learned by people of all ages and fitness levels!

"I was unathletic, unmotivated, had little self-confidence and poor coordination.
My doctor recommended sports. I didn't enjoy soccer or table tennis because of the competitive pressure.
In Capoeira training, togetherness is key. Everyone is welcome. The trainers at Arte Nacional Capoeira Stuttgart are patient, and the relaxed, respectful atmosphere of the group motivated me to stick with it.
I'm fitter, more confident, and can concentrate better. Physical challenges come more easily to me. This helps me both in my job and in my second hobby, acting.
I've also made new friends and feel very comfortable in the capoeira community."

Stressed from Everyday Life ?

  • Do you feel stressed by your daily work routine and can't switch off?

  • In the evening, do you fall exhausted onto the couch and watch series?

  • Have you signed up for a gym, but lack the motivation to actually go regularly?

  • Instead of at least doing exercises at home, do you prefer to watch sports influencers on social media?

  • That doesn’t have to be the case!

  • With us, you'll train in a group that motivates and supports you. You set your own pace and focus – whether it's strength, flexibility, acrobatics, technique, creativity, or music. You'll find your own path – your own style – as strong as a warrior and as free as a dancer.

  • Come along to Capoeira training! All you need is a pair of sweatpants. Leave the stress behind and immerse yourself in power.

"After work, care, and housework, I often feel exhausted, lacking energy, and just want to sleep. I find it difficult to switch off.
But I still make it to Capoeira training. I immediately feel alive and in a good mood. I come home from training full of energy, which carries me through the week."

The Group Arte Nacional

Dede Main Picture

Mestre Dedé

My name is Mauricio Ferreira da Luz – known in capoeira circles as Mestre Dedé.

I was born in Olinda, northern Brazil. At the age of 9, I discovered my passion for capoeira – my first training was barefoot on the street, full of enthusiasm.
At 21, I moved to São Paulo with my berimbau, a small suitcase, and a big dream. The three-day bus journey was the beginning of a difficult path: I slept on the streets, struggled to survive—but capoeira gave me strength, and eventually, I began teaching.

I lived in São Paulo for ten years—a time full of challenges and a deep connection to capoeira. I made a name for myself in the street rodas and taught in various martial arts schools.
In 2000, I founded the Arte Nacional group with the desire to spread capoeira beyond Brazil's borders. Since then, I've been giving workshops and courses on four continents—from Asia to America.

In 2005, I found my new home in Stuttgart. I still live and teach here today – with the same passion as on my first day.

I've inspired people of all ages and backgrounds to practice capoeira—from competitive athletes to children, from retirees to people with disabilities. Everyone trains differently—I adapt my training to each individual.

I teach various Capoeira styles, constantly develop myself, and promote exchange between schools – because Capoeira thrives on movement, encounters, and growth.

"Capoeira is everything to me: my work, my family, my friends, my calling."

"I practiced and taught judo, Wing Tsung, and other martial arts for many years. When I discovered capoeira, I realized how one-sided my training had been.

Above all, the strong connection to music, rhythm and Brazilian culture was new and enriching for me.

My appearance, body language, and self-confidence have improved.

I have been training Capoeira for 20 years now and am still learning new things on a regular basis.
Over the years, I have become acquainted with many martial artists, especially Capoeira masters, all over the world, and I can say that Master Dedé is the most versatile martial artist I know."

"I had experienced a lot of bad things in my life and was not doing well mentally or physically. After heart surgery, I had reached a new low. As a native Brazilian who grew up in Europe, I wanted to reconnect with my culture and other Brazilians.
I started with capoeira. At the age of 55, I did a cartwheel for the first time and learned that I was capable of so much more. I became more confident, more positive, and met some great people. Singing made my voice stronger, and although I had considered myself unmusical for over 50 years, I eventually felt at home making music.
At over 70, I returned to Brazil, my old home. I owe it to capoeira that I was able to fulfill this dream and that I can enjoy my retirement in good health."
